Assigning pictures to an asset
Question: When we assign a picture to an asset (generic picture) is there a way we can assign that picture to all the “alike” assets verses each asset at a time?
Answer: There isn’t a way to assign the same image to an “alike” asset, but you could assign images to assets other than by adding them manually from the Asset Information screen. This hint is provided as a courtesy only. As there are other details to consider, it is not recommended to use this method prior to having the GigaTrak training session for your product.
Alternative method to Assign Asset Image to existing Assets
- Create backup of the application’s SQL or Access database
2. Add the image, or images, you wish to use to the GigaTrak application Image folder:
Default folder is C:\GigaTrak\Asset Tracking System\Images
(Note: This path may have been changed, depending on your individual installation.)
3. Next, Open PC application | Log in
4. Select the File text tab | Select ‘Update Asset Data Export/Import’ Select ‘Export Current Asset Data for Update’ button Save the *.txt file with a name and to a directory that you choose
5. Open Excel and drag the *.txt you just created into the Excel Spread sheet
In the Asset Image Column (current ATS version defaults this to Column R, but this could change with versions updates), add the asset image name and image extension (.bmp, .gif, .jpg)
6. Save the Excel file as a *. txt (Tab delimited) file
7. From the GigaTrak PC application: Select the File text tab | Select ‘Update Asset Data Export/Import’
8. Select the ‘Find File’ button Locate the *.txt file that you just saved
9. Select the ‘Import File’ button
This will update the existing asset records with their new image assignments.
You can now to the Asset Information function and view the asset(s) record to confirm the image assignment.
