GigaTrak (formerly Process & Technology Solutions) was established in 1996 and has written over 600 software systems of all types. Our solutions meet a wide variety of customer needs. Our clients are both small growing companies as well as large Fortune 500 corporations. Most notably, GigaTrak was sole-sourced to write the secure warehouse inventory system used for The US State Department. We have been asked to provide software systems where no other company has been capable of meeting the need – something we are very proud of!

During the last several years, GigaTrak has developed numerous "off-the-shelf" products for industrial company use. Each product is designed around a standardized user interface to ensure ease-of-use for our customers. The user interface includes functions such as user authorization, bar code label designer, PDF report creation, default report and label printer assignment, and more. Our "look-and-feel" is user friendly and keeps training time at a minimum. The Asset Information screen from ATS (Asset Tracking System) is shown below for reference. In addition, a screen from the mobile handheld computer for check out is also displayed.

Every product can be customized to specifically meet the need of the client. This may include the addition of new modules or the modification of existing. Custom reports can also be added or a third party report writer used by the client. Each custom project starts with a Process Plan and includes a system specification.

Our database architecture is open and accessible so connecting or transferring data to another application is readily possible. Most systems are based on a Microsoft Access or SQL Server platform. Other database options are available including Oracle. Many of our systems have been connected to other host applications that may reside on an NT Server, AS/400, RS/6000 or mainframe system.

Each system is built on the foundation started with our WIN-IMS (Inventory Management System), and is capable of running on a LAN using either a Microsoft Access or SQL Server database engine. With the over 600 systems GigaTrak has written, we can draw upon our other software and solutions to better meet your need. Software Standards

Our software systems and custom solutions are built on industry standards to ensure that you can use them both now and in the future. Host applications are usually Windows-based with Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle as the database engine. Both Visual Basic and .NET applications are available. WEB interface systems are HTML, ASP, XML and all the other necessary standards for that environment. Mobile handheld solutions are typically .NET systems. RF application development methodologies are dependent on the needs of the project.

Hardware System Options

As with any data collection project, technology drives much of the process. In general, bar codes continue to be the standard for inventory tracking but RFID is emerging. Selecting the right solution for you is critical – and GigaTrak can help!

Bar Code Scanning Handheld Terminals

Two types of handheld terminals are available to manage the pick process. The first is a "batch" handheld computer that has an integral bar code scanner. Data is then stored internally in memory until it is "downloaded" at a PC workstation back into the host software. Inventory is automatically adjusted at the time of download. Batch handheld terminals are a lower cost solution when real-time data collection is not needed. A great entry level solution for most companies trying to get into barcoding.

Many customers opt for a wireless RF option for the handheld terminal. When customers have a high volume of picks occurring day-in day-out, wireless offers real-time updating of the host inventory. No downloading is needed. The handheld terminal communicates directly with the host database (recommend SQL Server for RF) providing accurate inventory adjustments on the fly. Handhelds have standardized on the Microsoft’s Windows Mobile/CE platform with color touchscreens and various keypad options. RF offers added time-savings and improved user interoperability. A great solution for the fast moving company!

Label Printing

Label printing becomes important in warehousing environments. Zebra and Datamax are world leader in printers and GigaTrak has a premier partner offering a certified repair center with media products readily available. Smaller desktop printers offer excellent reliability for customers printing only a few hundred labels a day. More robust industrial printers (left) offer higher print speeds and longer duty cycle. The number of labels expected on a daily basis drives the determination of which printer is best for you the user.
